Frederick Burrack

Dr. Frederick Burrack serves as Professor of Music Education, Director of Graduate Studies in Music, and Director of the Office of Assessment at Kansas State University's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. He joined the Kansas State faculty in Fall 2005 after teaching at Ball State University (2002-2005) and in the Carroll Community School District in Iowa (1982-2002).

His research focuses on student learning processes and assessment of learning, cross-disciplinary instruction, and instructional thought development in music teachers. Dr. Burrack has made significant contributions to music education assessment frameworks and methodologies.

His publications span music education and assessment journals including the Journal of Music Teacher Education, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and the Music Educators Journal. His work shows consistent focus on practical assessment tools for music educators and the development of standardized assessment approaches aligned with national music education standards.

Dr. Burrack has guided professional development seminars across the United States and internationally, including serving as opening keynote for the International Symposium on Innovative Teaching and Learning at Jilin University in China (2018) and leading 15 sessions across Taiwan in May 2019. His leadership extends to serving as Chair for the National Association for Music Education Assessment Special Research Interest Group and Co-Chair for developing Model Cornerstone Assessments that accompany the National K-12 Music Standards.
