معرفی
Philippa Browning is Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Manchester's Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics. With a mathematics background from Cambridge University and Ph.D. from St Andrews, she leads research in solar and fusion plasma theory.
Research Focus: Her group develops magnetohydrodynamic models of solar phenomena including magnetic reconnection events and particle acceleration mechanisms during solar flares. She investigates how nanoflare heating sustains the solar corona's million-degree temperatures.
Leadership: Chaired the Institute of Physics Plasma Physics Committee (2013-2017) and UK Solar Physics Council (2013-2016). Currently serves on STFC Astronomy Grants Panel and previously chaired STFC Women in SET group.
Facilities: Utilizes MAST spherical tokamak for experimental validation of reconnection models. Collaborates with Culham Centre for Fusion Energy on plasma confinement studies.
