Philip Ursprung

Philip Ursprung is a Full Professor of the History of Art and Architecture at ETH Zurich since 2011 and Head of the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture since 2024. He has held visiting professorships at institutions including Columbia University, Cornell University, and Barcelona Institute of Architecture.

His research focuses on the history and theory of architecture, with interests spanning colonial influences, graphic arts, and cultural narratives in architectural practice. He teaches courses like "History and Theory of Architecture" and "Reflection on Exhibition and Art Practice."

Awards include the 2013 Golden Owl for teaching excellence, the 2017 Prix Meret Oppenheim, and representing Switzerland at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale. He is affiliated with organizations such as the Bund Schweizer Architektinnen und Architekten (BSA) and the Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art (AICA).
