Philip Smith serves as Professor and Associate Chair of Liberal Arts at Savannah College of Art and Design. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Loughborough University, complemented by MA and BA degrees from the same institution. His leadership role encompasses faculty recruitment, curriculum development, and accreditation processes for 68 faculty members, while maintaining a teaching load across composition, creative writing, and literature courses.
Smith's research spans comics studies, Shakespearean adaptation, horror genre analysis, and children's literature. As Editor-in-Chief of Literature Compass since 2020, he directs editorial policy and scholarship dissemination. His publications include monographs examining horror comics as Cold War commentary and Shakespeare's cultural impact in Singapore.
His scholarly output demonstrates deep engagement with visual narratives across historical periods, from Botticelli's Divine Comedy illustrations to contemporary Nigerian digital theater. Current projects investigate courtroom art's evidentiary rhetoric and equity pedagogy through children's literature. His work frequently employs comparative cultural analysis and interdisciplinary methodologies bridging literary criticism with visual studies.
