Chris Auer is a Professor of Dramatic Writing at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), holding this position since Summer 2014. Previously, he served as Chair of Film and Television (2004–2014) and Chair of Dramatic Writing (2008–2014). His administrative roles included overseeing budgets up to $1 million and managing faculty/students across disciplines. Auer teaches graduate/undergraduate courses in screenwriting, playwriting, and television writing.
Education: M.A. in Communication (Regent University), B.A. in Theater (SUNY).
Research interests span dramatic writing across film, TV, and theater, with specialization in integrating performing arts curricula. He has authored children’s books like The Littlest Magi and produced documentaries exploring religion in Hollywood and music history. Notable works include God Goes to the Movies (2019) and Cradle of Genius (2003).
Awards include an Emmy nomination for As the World Turns and membership in prominent organizations like the Writers’ Guild of America. His career spans over 40 years, including roles as executive producer of Big Brother Jake (1990–1994) and staff writer on The Cosby Show (1986–1988).
