Philip Bucksbaum is the Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor of Natural Science at Stanford University with joint appointments in Photon Science, Applied Physics, and Physics. He directs the Stanford PULSE Institute, pioneering research using X-ray free-electron lasers to study femtosecond-scale molecular dynamics.
His research spans attosecond electron imaging, strong-field laser-matter interactions, and molecular movie techniques capturing chemical reactions. Recent work includes breakthroughs in measuring attosecond delays in molecular ionization and probing electronic coherence.
Bucksbaum has received the Norman F. Ramsey Prize and serves on multiple national science advisory boards. He previously served as President of the American Physical Society and Optical Society.
