Matthias Kling is a Professor of Photon Science at Stanford University and Director of the Science, Research and Development (SRD) Division at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. He holds a courtesy appointment in Applied Physics. His career includes leadership roles at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, and Kansas State University.
Education: PhD in Physical Chemistry (2002) from University of Göttingen, Germany. Postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley and AMOLF. Research focuses on attosecond nanophotonics, ultrafast electronics, lightwave control in quantum materials, and aerosol chemical processes. His lab develops high-power laser systems and ultrafast spectroscopies for probing electron dynamics in nanoscale systems.
