Dr. Phil Brown is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Student Success) in the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation at Plymouth Marjon University. He serves as Programme Area Leader for BA (Hons) Sport Development, overseeing specialist pathways in Sport Management and School Sport. His academic leadership includes roles as Academic Link Tutor at Richard Huish College and partnership coordinator with Plymouth Argyle Community Trust. With a Professional Doctorate in Education (University of Plymouth), he specializes in sport policy analysis, higher education pedagogy, and community-based physical activity initiatives.
Education background includes a MSc in Sports Management (Northumbria University), PGCE in Professional Development (Marjon), and BA in Physical Recreation and Geography (Exeter University). His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate modules including Sport Policy, Strategic Management, Inclusion in Sport, and Applied Sport Development. He actively contributes to curriculum design for sport management and coaching programs.
Research focuses on paralympic policy frameworks, community sport networks, and higher education student experience. Notable projects include evaluation of the national LEAP free swimming pilot and studies on cancer patient physical activity interventions. He has presented at international conferences including the Higher Education Academy Annual Conference and American College of Sports Medicine meetings.
