Phevos Kallitsis serves as Associate Professor in Architecture at Roehampton University's Sustainable Engineering and Technology Education Center (SETEC), overseeing learning and teaching, quality assurance, and curriculum development. Trained as an Architect Engineer at the National Technical University of Athens, he transitioned from international architectural practice to academia with extensive experience in course leadership and programme accreditation. He contributes to sector bodies including RIBA, ARB, and Athena SWAN while holding a Senior Fellowship of the HEA.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD in Urban and Regional Planning (2018) from National Technical University of Athens focusing on urban regeneration through horror films
- MA in Architecture Engineering (2006) from National Technical University of Athens
- MA in Architectural and Spatial Design (2009) from National Technical University of Athens
Kallitsis investigates architecture's intersection with visual culture and social issues, specifically examining how gender, sexuality, memory, and the body shape spatial design. His work spans queer spatialities in Greek urban environments, dementia care facilities, design pedagogy, and cinematic influences on urban regeneration. He co-edited a special issue on queer spatialities and supervises interdisciplinary doctoral research in architecture and the built environment.
Recent publications (2023-2024) reveal three dominant trajectories: Greek urban queer spatialities (particularly gender/sexuality dynamics), horror film's relationship to urban segregation/gentrification, and innovative pedagogical applications of comics in architectural education. These works consistently bridge architectural theory with critical social analysis, emphasizing sustainable material reuse and community engagement.
His professional recognition includes:
- Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
Kallitsis actively supervises doctoral candidates while leading curriculum development initiatives. His research funding includes the EU Interreg 2 Seas project 'Plasticity' as co-investigator, developing community engagement methods for sustainable material reuse. He maintains external roles as CPD Reviewer for the Architects Registration Board and Collaborator at National Technical University of Athens.
Though no dedicated laboratories are documented, his collaborative networks span EU-funded projects, Greek academic institutions, and professional bodies including RIBA and ARB, facilitating transnational research on urban spatial justice.
