Alida Bata is a Design Fellow at the University of Cambridge's Department of Architecture, part of the Faculty of Architecture and History of Art. She holds a MEng and an Architectural Association Diploma (full scholarship recipient). Her research focuses on the knowledge society in space, crisis and bewilderment, and adaptive reuse. With over 10 years of international experience in architecture and urban design, she has worked across the Middle East, Central Asia, East Africa, and Europe, specializing in complex multi-stakeholder projects. She serves on the ARB Accreditation Committee and RIBA Validation Panel, contributing to architectural education and professional standards.
Her expertise includes adaptive reuse strategies, crisis-responsive design, and the spatial dimensions of knowledge systems. Alida bridges academic research with practical application, emphasizing sustainable and contextually adaptive solutions. She has taught architecture and urban design globally, advocating for interdisciplinary approaches to built environments.
