Prof. Petronela Ancuta is a Full Professor at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, and Immunology. She leads research on HIV pathogenesis, focusing on immune mechanisms and viral persistence. Her work integrates immunology and virology to identify therapeutic targets for HIV cure strategies.
- Key roles: Principal Investigator in CANCURE (Canadian HIV Cure Enterprise), CRCHUM member, and leader in HIV reservoir studies.
Education: PhD in Immunology from Université Paris XI and postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School. She teaches immunology courses and supervises numerous PhD and Master's students.
Research focuses on Th17 cells, myeloid cells, circadian rhythms, and HIV's impact on cardiovascular health. Her grants include IRSC-funded projects on viral reservoirs and immune modulation. Collaborations span Canadian and international institutions.
Notable projects include exploring RORC2 as a therapeutic target, circadian clock effects on HIV, and IL-32's role in inflammation. Her lab's findings aim to translate into clinical interventions for HIV remission.
