Mark Brockman is a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University (SFU), affiliated with the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. He co-leads the Brockman and Brumme HIV Research Lab alongside Dr. Zabrina Brumme, integrating molecular biology, epidemiology, and computational approaches to study HIV-1 virology and immunology.
- Education: BA (Beloit College), PhD (Harvard University)
His research focuses on HIV immune escape mutations, cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) recognition, viral tropism, and cellular compartmentalization in disease progression. The lab develops in vitro strategies for population-level analyses to inform HIV vaccine design and cure strategies, while also exploring immune responses to COVID-19 vaccines. Notably, his team contributes to the Canadian HIV Cure Enterprise (CanCURE).
The lab collaborates with the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS and engages in interdisciplinary work spanning virology, immunology, and pathogenesis. Research outcomes aim to advance personalized immunotherapeutic strategies for HIV remission.
