Brad Jones is an Associate Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology with a cross-appointment in the Division of Infectious Diseases. He leads the Laboratory of Antiviral Cellular Immunity (Jones Laboratory) focused on HIV cure research.
Dr. Jones received his PhD in Immunology from the University of Toronto before completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT, and Harvard in 2012. His educational background includes a B.Sc. from Simon Fraser University (Canada) in 2004.
Dr. Jones' research focuses on understanding the relationships between HIV and the human immune system, particularly cytotoxic T cells and natural killer cells, with the ultimate goal of developing a cure. His laboratory explores multidisciplinary approaches including enhancing immune cell function through genetic engineering, identifying latency reversal agents, and developing strategies to target T cells against non-escaped viral epitopes. Current projects include identifying mechanisms of immune clearance resistance, studying how HIV integration sites influence viral persistence, optimizing T-cell vaccine strategies, and conducting clinical trials of immunotherapeutic agents.
Analysis of Dr. Jones' recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on HIV reservoir characterization, immune evasion mechanisms, and novel therapeutic approaches. His work spans basic virology, translational research, and clinical applications, with particular focus on understanding why current therapies cannot eliminate HIV and how to overcome these barriers.
