Petra Bauer

Petra Bauer is an Assistant Professor in German at Durham University's School of Modern Languages and Cultures, specializing in intercultural communication through translation pedagogy. She directs telecollaboration projects between Durham students and peers at Karlsruhe University, enhancing cultural transfer in literary/factual translations.

Her research examines translation as a bridge between languages, cultures, and historical contexts. Bauer advocates for 'invisible' translation that creates authentic reader experiences, citing influences from Anthea Bell and Günter Grass. She co-authored 'The Potential of a Telecollaborative Translation Course' (2022), analyzing virtual exchanges during the pandemic.
