Peter Taylor is a Professor at Queen's University, cross-appointed from the Department of Mathematics & Statistics and currently serves as Chair of Undergraduate Studies. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and M.Sc. and B.Sc. from Queen's University. His research focuses on evolutionary game theory, evolutionary modeling of behavior, and mathematics education, particularly curriculum development for secondary schools. He leads the rabbitmath.ca initiative, which develops sophisticated problems for high school mathematics curricula. Taylor has dedicated decades to bridging evolutionary biology and mathematics education, collaborating with scholars and teachers to implement innovative classroom activities.
His academic journey began with classical analysis before shifting to evolutionary biology in the 1970s, influenced by John Maynard Smith and Bill Hamilton. Over time, his passion for education reform became central to his work, driven by the belief that curricula must evolve to meet modern challenges. Taylor emphasizes collaboration with educators to integrate experimental activities into classrooms, reflecting his commitment to both research and pedagogy.
