Bill Nelson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Queen's University, cross-appointed to the Beaty Water Research Centre. He holds an office in Biosciences 3506 and can be contacted via nelsonw@queensu.ca or 613-533-6130. His research focuses on linking individual life history traits to population and community dynamics, addressing topics like insect outbreak cycles and eco-evolutionary processes. Methodologically, his lab integrates mathematical models, lab experiments, and field-based mesocosm studies across invertebrate systems such as freshwater zooplankton and tortrix moths.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Calgary (2004) and a postdoctoral fellowship in Mathematical Biology at the University of Alberta (2007).
Current supervision includes Postdoctoral Fellow Richard Smith. Research opportunities are available for MSc/PhD students in Molecular Physiology, Evolutionary Biology, and Pest Insect Ecology. Despite no explicitly listed awards, his cross-appointments and active supervision indicate academic standing. Lab work emphasizes theoretical and experimental approaches to ecological scaling processes.
