John Taylor is a Professor of Biology at Southern Utah University (SUU), affiliated with the College of Engineering and Computational Sciences. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s in zoology, and a doctorate in science education. His research focuses on bat biology, animal behavior, and innovative science education practices. Taylor actively engages students through fieldwork, emphasizing hands-on learning in biology.
He teaches courses including BIO 1010 Introduction to Biology, BIO 1620 General Biology, and capstone research modules. Taylor is passionate about fostering student independence and critical thinking, believing education transforms lives. He co-founded SUU’s STEM Center and Jumpstart General Education program, advancing STEM accessibility. His proudest moments involve witnessing student success at commencement ceremonies.
Taylor’s personal interests include cave exploration, bat documentation, and applying ecological principles to engineering challenges. He prioritizes mentorship, guiding students through undergraduate research and internships.
