Peter Rush

Associate Professor Peter Rush is a faculty member at the University of Melbourne's Melbourne Law School. He holds roles as Director of the International Criminal Justice Research Programme at the Institute for International Law and the Humanities, and Associate Director of Legal Aesthetics at the Centre for Media and Communications Law. With a career spanning over three decades, he has taught criminal law, jurisprudence, and related subjects across Australia and the UK. His interdisciplinary background includes stints as a youthworker, artist, filmmaker, and scholar.

• Research Focus: Criminal law, international justice, trauma/ transitional justice, and legal humanities.
• Professional Roles: Vice President of the Law and Literature Association of Australia, editorial board member of legal theory journals.

He has presented globally at institutions like Amherst College and New York University, and contributed to law reform debates on sexual offences and HIV transmission law. His 2000 documentary explored justice, aesthetics, and colonialism in Melbourne.
