Professor Alex Sharpe is a Faculty member at the School of Law, University of Warwick. She holds positions as Director of Impact and Professor of Law, focusing on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of law, ethics, and cultural studies. Her work emphasizes legal theory, gender studies, criminal justice reform, and the role of popular culture in legal discourse.
Research interests include: social/legal theory, law/ethics/aesthetics nexus, human rights frameworks, gender/sexuality law, and law's engagement with popular culture. She critiques legal systems through queer theory, feminist perspectives, and critical legal analysis.
Recent scholarship includes monographs such as David Bowie Outlaw (2022) and Sexual Intimacy and Gender Identity 'Fraud' (2018), which challenge legal approaches to gender nonconformity. Her peer-reviewed articles address topics like legal responses to gender-based deception in sexual offences and European human rights frameworks.
Supervises research on transgender jurisprudence, criminal justice system reforms, and intersections of law with art/identity. Active in academic impact initiatives, advocating for law reforms through public scholarship and media engagement.
