معرفی
Peter R Andreana is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Toledo, with dual appointments in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the School of Green Chemistry and Engineering. His research focuses on developing innovative carbohydrate-based approaches to address critical medical challenges.
Andreana received his Honors BSc in Biochemistry from Brock University in 1998, followed by a PhD from Wayne State University in 2002. He conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University as an NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein Post Doctoral Fellow before beginning his independent career at Wayne State University in 2005. In 2012, he relocated his research group to The University of Toledo.
His research program centers on carbohydrate-based vaccine development for cancer and infectious diseases, small molecule synthesis of natural and natural product-like compounds, and the development of carbohydrate-based immunotherapeutics. The Andreana Group operates under NIH R37 AI 106878 and NIH SCV4 R01 AI 177075 grants, both in collaboration with Dr. Ed Ryan of Harvard, along with start-up funding from The University of Toledo.
Andreana's publication record demonstrates consistent focus on glycoconjugate chemistry, with recent work emphasizing entirely carbohydrate-based vaccine constructs, monoclonal antibody development against carbohydrate antigens, and innovative synthetic methodologies for glycan manipulation. His research bridges organic chemistry, immunology, and translational medicine.
- 2010: David Y. Gin New Investigator ACS Award from the Division of Carbohydrates
- 2023: Melville L. Wolfrom Award from the ACS Division of Chemistry and Glycobiology
Professionally, Andreana serves as treasurer and secretary for both the United States Advisory Committee for the International Carbohydrate Symposium and the ACS Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry and Glycobiology, while also acting as the ACS Carbohydrate Division's webmaster. He is the founder of Glycan mAb LLC, a company dedicated to developing carbohydrate-specific monoclonal antibodies for therapeutic applications.
The Andreana Group maintains active collaborations with Harvard University and operates within The University of Toledo's research infrastructure, contributing significantly to the field of carbohydrate-based immunotherapeutics and vaccine development.
