Chi-Huey Wong

Chi-Huey Wong is the Scripps Family Chair Professor of Chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). He holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from MIT (1982) and has held prominent roles, including President of Academia Sinica (2006–2016). His research focuses on bioorganic chemistry and glycobiology, particularly glycosylation’s role in cancer, infections, and neurodegeneration. He pioneered glycan microarrays, enzymatic synthesis of glycans, and carbohydrate-based vaccines. Awards include the Wolf Prize in Chemistry (2014) and the Tetrahedron Prize (2022). His lab develops tools like AI-assisted antibody design and low-sugar vaccines against pathogens. Current projects include glycoengineered antibodies and inhibitors of glycosylation enzymes.

Education: B.S./M.S. in Biochemical Sciences (National Taiwan University, 1970/1977), PhD in Organic Chemistry (MIT, 1982).

Research interests span glycan synthesis, enzyme inhibition, and vaccine development. Notable contributions include glycan arrays for biomarker discovery and universal influenza/SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.
