Inka Brockhausen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences at Queen's University, affiliated with the School of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences. She holds cross-appointments in the Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME) and the Centre for Neuroscience Studies. Her research focuses on glycobiology, particularly the roles of glycosylation in cancer, inflammation, neurodegenerative diseases, and microbial pathogenesis. She leads the Brockhausen Glycobiology Lab at Botterell Hall, Room 715, Queen’s University.
Education: PhD in Biochemistry (University of Toronto, 1985); BSc in Biochemistry, Nutrition, and Food Sciences (University of Toronto, 1980).
Research Interests: Her lab investigates glycosyltransferases involved in bacterial polysaccharide synthesis (e.g., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus anthracis), glycan roles in cell proliferation and apoptosis, and glycosylation’s contributions to Parkinson’s disease and protein aggregation. She also develops inhibitors of glycosylation enzymes as potential antibacterial/antifungal agents and explores glycan-based vaccines.
Affiliations: KGH Research Institute, Queen’s Laboratory for Molecular Pathology (QLMP), and multiple Queen’s research centers.
Labs/Teams: Brockhausen Glycobiology Lab, collaborating on projects involving enzymology, microbial pathogenesis, and translational medicine.
