Prof. Dr. Peter Pickl is a Professor of Mathematical Physics at the University of Tübingen's Department of Mathematics, part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. He leads the Mathematical Physics research group and actively organizes major academic events like the 19th Colloquium on Mathematics and Foundations of Quantum Theory (October 2024). His teaching includes advanced courses on Analysis, Linear Algebra, and Mathematical Statistical Physics.
Research focuses on deriving macroscopic descriptions from microscopic particle dynamics, with emphasis on mean-field limits for classical/quantum systems using the α-method. Key areas include Cherenkov radiation in Bose-Einstein condensates, quantum field vacuum behavior in QED, and time's arrow explanations via irreversible macro-state dynamics in non-equilibrating systems. Current DFG-funded projects explore microscopic time-irreversibility mechanisms.
Currently supervising seven PhD students with notable alumni including Sören Petrat and Maximilian Jeblick. No explicit awards listed, but active in high-profile academic collaborations and event organization.
