Peter Naccarato

Peter Naccarato, Ph.D., currently serves as Interim President of Marymount Manhattan College (MMC), having previously held positions as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. He has been a member of the faculty in the Department of English and World Literatures for over 20 years and holds the academic rank of Professor.

Dr. Naccarato's research focuses primarily on food studies, with particular emphasis on Italian and Italian-American food culture. His work explores the concept of culinary capital and how food practices shape individual and group identities in contemporary culture. He has developed courses examining the intersection of food, literature, and social identity, including 'Eating New York' which explores NYC history through its diverse food culture.

His publications include multiple co-authored and co-edited volumes that have established significant frameworks in food studies, particularly the influential concept of culinary capital. These works analyze how food practices intersect with cultural values, gender, and economic class across various contemporary settings.

Dr. Naccarato has taught in diverse settings including MMC's College Program at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility and has led numerous study abroad programs to Italy where he teaches 'Mangiamo: Food in Italian Literature and Film.' His academic background includes a Ph.D. in English from Stony Brook University and a B.A. in English from Villanova University.
