Rebecca Sperling

Rebecca Sperling is a former faculty member and social work practitioner at Marymount Manhattan College (MMC), where she developed and oversaw the Minor in Social Work. She holds an M.S.W. and Ph.D. from Columbia University's School of Social Work, where she also taught graduate and doctoral courses. Her work integrates systems theory, strengths-based approaches, and storytelling in clinical practice and education.

Research & Practice: Dr. Sperling’s expertise spans mental health, prison systems, women’s studies, and substance abuse. She has supervised clinical programs in NYC settings, including Mt. Sinai Hospital and the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, focusing on crisis intervention and family support. Her private practice continues her clinical work.

Teaching: Taught Sociology, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and social work courses emphasizing pedagogy and oral history. Her clinical roles included coordinating parenting programs in correctional facilities and community-based initiatives.

Labs/Teams: Led programs in the Lower East Side and collaborated with NYC hospitals and correctional institutions.
