Mr. Peter Mendelts serves as a part-time lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen, specializing in Administrative Law, Environmental Law, and Nature Protection Law. His primary occupation is strategic lawyer for the Province of Drenthe and an independent legal advisor. He holds editorial roles at NBR - Tijdschrift Natuurbeschermingsrecht and Milieu en Recht, and serves as deputy judge at the District Court of Central Netherlands. Former roles include assistant professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam (2000-2002) and senior positions at the Dutch Wadden Sea Council and consultancy agency Eelerwoude.
- Education: Ph.D. in Law from Utrecht University (2002), Grotius specialization in Planning & Environmental Law (2016-2017), LL.M. in Dutch and International Law from Groningen University (1990-1995).
Research focuses on administrative procedures in environmental governance, nature conservation legal frameworks, and sustainable spatial planning. His recent case notes analyze judicial applications of EU directives, habitat protection litigation, and administrative penalty mechanisms. Professional activities include board memberships at conservation foundations like Grauwe Kiekendief (Montagu’s Harrier Foundation) and Vangstrechtenfonds Geïntegreerde Visserij.
Teaching includes courses on Administrative Law Litigation, Constitutional Law 1, and Public Law & Sustainability at the University of Groningen.
