Professor Peter Liesch is a distinguished academic in International Business at the UQ Business School, The University of Queensland. He holds the position of Discipline Leader for the International Business Group and has extensive experience in academia, including roles as Professor and Head of the School of Management at the University of Tasmania. His research focuses on firm internationalization, global business operations, and dynamic capabilities, with notable contributions to the evolution of the Uppsala model and strategic frameworks in international entrepreneurship.
He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Queensland, with a thesis on Government-Mandated Countertrade. His career includes pioneering work in agri-food global value chains and strategic university reform grants. He has authored/co-authored influential textbooks like International Business: Asia-Pacific Edition and Global Business: Asia-Pacific Perspective, and co-edited Special Issues in top journals.
Professor Liesch has been recognized with the Fiftieth Anniversary Silver Medal (2019) and is a Fellow of the Academy of International Business and the Australian Institute of Managers and Leaders. His editorial roles include Area Editor for the Journal of International Business Studies. He has secured significant research grants, including a AUD7 million project on Agri-Food Innovation in Australia.
His research spans risk management in internationalization, born global firms' capabilities, and the interplay of institutional and organizational dynamics. He has advised on terrorism impacts on business and led initiatives like the AIB 39 Country Initiative in Kenya. His work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing strategic adaptation in global markets.
