Gerald Yong Gao is a Professor of Marketing and Associate Dean of Research and Faculty Affairs at the University of Missouri-St. Louis's College of Business Administration. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Peking University and a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on marketing strategies, innovation, international business, and emerging markets, with emphasis on firm capabilities and global expansion dynamics. He has published widely in top-tier journals like Journal of International Business Studies and Administrative Science Quarterly.
Dr. Gao has received notable awards including the Anheuser-Bush Award for Teaching Excellence (2008) and the Douglas E. Durand Award for Research Excellence. His work explores topics such as FDI performance, export governance, and multinational firms' strategic orientations. He currently serves on editorial boards for Journal of International Marketing and Asia Pacific Journal of Management, and teaches courses in international marketing and strategic management.
His research projects include studies on marketing and technology capabilities in China, funded by the City of Hong Kong. Key themes in his work include historical imprint effects on innovation, governance mechanisms in export ventures, and the role of state ownership in firm innovation.
