Peter Lewisch is University Professor (Univ.-Prof. DDr.) of Criminal Law and Criminology at the Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology, University of Vienna. He teaches and researches in all core areas of criminal-law doctrine, criminal procedure and economic analysis of law, and currently leads several specialised seminars for diploma and doctoral candidates.
Teaching & Examination Focus:
- Criminal Law – Fundamentals and General Part I (Theory of Criminal Offences)
- Private lecture on criminal law & criminal procedural law
- Seminar on Financial Criminal Law: Tax and Crime
- Current Issues in Criminal Procedure Law
- Economic Analysis of Law (MA level)
Research & Methodological Approach:
Prof. Lewisch emphasises independent norm interpretation, doctrinal coherence and legal-policy evaluation; his written examinations test the ability to contextualise provisions within the broader architecture of the Austrian Criminal Code (esp. §§ 75–321k) rather than rote detail.
Planned Sabbatical:
He will be on research leave during summer semester 2026; last examination date before the leave is January 2026, first thereafter October 2026.
