Associate Professor Lyndel Bates is an award-winning researcher at Griffith University's School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, affiliated with the Griffith Criminology Institute. With over 20 years of experience, including senior policy roles in the Queensland Parliamentary Service (2003-2012), she specializes in road policing, young driver behavior, and procedural justice. She holds a PhD from Queensland University of Technology and multiple commerce/behavioral science degrees from Griffith University.
Her research integrates criminological theory, deterrence frameworks, and traffic psychology to address:
- Road policing interventions and compliance mechanisms
- Young driver risk factors and educational strategies
- Third-party policing partnerships and policy translation
- Procedural justice applications in traffic enforcement
Recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on experimental trials evaluating policing strategies, digital interventions for crime prevention, and cross-national studies on impaired micromobility. Her work consistently emphasizes policy-relevant outcomes and behavioral change models.
