Helen Wells is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Keele University, School of Social Sciences. She is a UKRI Policy Fellow (since January 2024) investigating the impact of Connected and Automated Vehicles on policing. Her research focuses on policing and technology, roads policing, and procedural justice. She founded the Roads Policing Academic Network (2018), a multidisciplinary initiative with over 260 members.
Dr. Wells holds a PhD from Keele University (2007) and has taught extensively in criminology, including modules on policing and criminal justice. She supervises PhD and professional doctorate students on topics like data-driven policing and rural crime. Her funded projects include studies on technology in law enforcement and alternative sanctions for traffic offenses.
Her publications explore themes like automated policing systems, mobile phone distraction, and public compliance with road safety measures. She has contributed to policy debates on police accountability and the integration of technology in policing practices.
