Jean-Robert Tyran

Jean-Robert Tyran is a Professor of Economics at the University of Vienna and Director of the Vienna Center for Experimental Economics (VCEE). He holds a PhD from the University of Zurich (1997) and has previously held positions at the University of Copenhagen and University of St. Gallen. His research explores how institutions like markets and democracy are shaped by bounded rationality and social preferences.

His current projects address:

• Enhancing democratic resilience against fake news
• Political acceptance of immigration
• Welfare state perceptions
• Workplace norms in Japan

He has published over 50 papers in top journals including Science, Econometrica, and American Economic Review. He serves on editorial boards of Experimental Economics and Journal of Economic Science Association.

Awards include fellowships from CEPR London and CESifo Munich. He teaches courses in Political Economy and Experimental Economics, and has held visiting appointments at Harvard Kennedy School and LSE.
