Peter Leadbetter is a Senior Lecturer and Senior Learning & Teaching Fellow at Edge Hill University's School of Medicine. He leads the Foundation Year to Medicine programme, focusing on widening access through inclusivity and community engagement. His academic roles include chairing the national Foundation & Gateway to Medicine Leads group and contributing to the Medical Schools Council's initiatives.
Education: Chartered Psychologist (BPS, 2016), PhD in Medical Education & Psychology (University of Liverpool, 2014), PGCTHE (Edge Hill University, 2013), MEd in Educational Psychology (University of Manchester, 2006).
Research focuses on clinical communication, attachment theory's role in medical education, and emotional factors in student learning. Recent projects include studies on healthcare student support systems and the impact of Holocaust site visits on learning.
Notable awards include the ASME New Leaders Award (2021) and National Teaching Fellowship (2023). He has secured funding for widening participation initiatives (e.g., £112,000 for Summer Schools) and contributed to the development of the QAA Access Diploma for Medicine.
