Peter J. Katzenstein is the Walter S. Carpenter, Jr. Professor of International Studies in Cornell University's Department of Government. His interdisciplinary research bridges international relations and comparative politics, examining political economy, security-culture interactions, civilizational identities, and power dynamics in global affairs. He directs the Cornell Studies in Political Economy series and has chaired over 100 dissertation committees.
Professor Katzenstein's influential work includes analyses of public diplomacy, law-religion-popular culture intersections, and regionalism in world politics. Current research explores uncertainty in international systems, temporal-spatial dimensions of civilizations, and German/European politics. He has received six honorary doctorates and fellowships from leading institutes including Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study.
Major publications include Protean Power (2018), Anglo-America and Its Discontents (2012), and Sinicization and the Rise of China (2012). His scholarship has shaped debates on institutional analysis, eclectic methodology, and non-Western perspectives in political science.
