معرفی
Peter James Krause is a Senior Research Scientist in Epidemiology (Microbial Diseases) at Yale School of Public Health and holds joint appointments in Medicine (Infectious Diseases) and Pediatrics (Infectious Disease) at Yale School of Medicine. He serves as Lecturer in Epidemiology and is affiliated faculty with the Yale Institute for Global Health. His research focuses primarily on vector-borne diseases with emphasis on human babesiosis, Lyme disease, and Borrelia miyamotoi infections.
Dr. Krause received his B.A. with honors in biology from Williams College and his M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine. His medical training includes Pediatric internship and residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Stanford University Medical Center, followed by Pediatric Infectious Diseases training at UCLA. Before returning to Yale in 2008, he served as Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Krause is an internationally recognized authority on human babesiosis who has made numerous pioneering contributions to the field. His research interests span vector-borne disease epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles and 35 book chapters, primarily focused on human babesiosis, and has co-edited two books on parasitic zoonoses and immunoepidemiology. His work has significantly advanced understanding of babesiosis transmission through blood transfusion, coinfections with other tick-borne pathogens, and clinical management of these diseases.
Analysis of Dr. Krause's recent publications reveals consistent focus on babesiosis and related tick-borne diseases, with particular attention to clinical manifestations, treatment challenges, blood transfusion risks, and epidemiological patterns. His work spans clinical case reports, epidemiological studies, laboratory investigations, and reviews that have shaped clinical practice guidelines in the field.
- Chair of the committee that wrote the IDSA 2020 Guideline on Diagnosis and Management of Babesiosis
- Member of the committee for IDSA Guidelines for Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Lyme Disease
- Fellow, American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
- Cited in American Men and Women of Science, The Best Doctors in America, and Who's Who in America
- Service on editorial boards of Clinical Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology Reviews, Plos Neglected Tropical Diseases, and Pathogens
Dr. Krause has served as mentor to numerous researchers in the field of vector-borne diseases and has received continuous research funding supporting his investigations into babesiosis and related tick-borne infections. His work with the Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health Tick Borne Disease Working Group demonstrates his influence on national public health policy related to these emerging infections.
Dr. Krause directs research at the Llura A. Gund Laboratory for Vector-Borne Diseases, where his team investigates the immunology, epidemiology, and clinical aspects of babesiosis and related tick-borne infections. His laboratory has been instrumental in developing diagnostic tests, characterizing disease patterns, and identifying treatment approaches for these increasingly recognized public health threats.
