Alexia Belperron is an Associate Dean of Science and QR Education in Yale College, serving as a Research Scientist in Rheumatology, Instructor in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry, and Lecturer in Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology at Yale School of Medicine. Her research focuses on Lyme disease and tick-borne infections, with expertise in immune responses, spirochete motility, and diagnostic development. She holds a PhD from Dartmouth College (1998) and a BS from Cornell University (1990).
Education:
- PhD in Biochemistry, Dartmouth College, 1998
- BS in Biochemistry and Business Management, Cornell University, 1990
Research Interests: Investigates immune responses to Borrelia burgdorferi, spirochete biomechanics using optical tweezers, and diagnostic innovations for Lyme disease. Collaborates with engineering and physics departments on spirochete movement studies and with L2 Diagnostics on testing advancements. Explores other tick-borne pathogens like Babesia and Borrelia miyamotoi.
Labs/Teams: Uses intra-vital microscopy and optical tweezers in collaboration with the Dufresne Lab. Active in interdisciplinary teams studying vector-borne diseases and immunology.
