Peter Hossler is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Urban Studies Program at Rhodes College. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Georgia (2011), an M.A. in Geography from Indiana University (2004), and a B.A. in Geography from Indiana University (2000). His research focuses on urban political economy, healthcare politics, geographies of justice, and social reproduction. His work critically examines issues such as privatization of healthcare systems, free clinics as sites of resistance, and the entanglement of religion and commodified healthcare.
Previously, Hossler was a Research Associate in Urban Political Economy at the University of Glasgow’s School of Geographical & Earth Sciences. His publications span peer-reviewed journals like Geoforum and Antipode, exploring topics ranging from medical services privatization to post-conflict environmental recovery. He has also contributed encyclopedia entries on radical geography and reviewed books on topics like faith-based welfare politics and radical cartography.
His recent work (2019) engages with Lefebvre’s theories of urban space and the ‘right to the city,’ while earlier research (2011) analyzed healthcare safety nets in Milwaukee. Hossler’s interdisciplinary approach bridges geography, urban studies, and political economy, addressing systemic inequities in healthcare access and urban development.
