Anne Bonds is a Professor of Geography at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM), with affiliated roles in Urban Studies and Sociology. Her work focuses on critical race geographies, urban political economy, and carceral geographies. She holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Washington (2008), an MA in Women's Studies from the University of Arizona (2003), and a BS in Economics from the University of Wyoming (2001).
Research interests include racial segregation, property and housing studies, and the intersections of white supremacy with settler colonialism. She co-founded the Mapping Racism and Resistance in Milwaukee County project, analyzing racially restrictive covenants (1910-1960). Current projects explore geographies of white supremacy, criminalization of the poor, and prison sitings.
Publications emphasize spatialized racism, carceral systems, and feminist political economy. Recent work critiques racialized urban policies and neoliberal university structures. Her scholarship spans journals like Antipode, Geoforum, and Annals of the Association of American Geographers.
Lectures include courses on human geography, urban studies, qualitative methods, and critical race theory. Office hours are by appointment.
Bonds collaborates with graduate students on projects like carceral geographies and non-profit housing dynamics. She advocates for slow scholarship and collective academic resistance against neoliberal pressures.
