Dr. Peter Earl is an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Economics at the University of Queensland (UQ), having previously held a Professorship at Lincoln University, New Zealand. He specializes in behavioral economics, evolutionary economics, and Post Keynesian macroeconomics, with a focus on consumer decision-making and psychological factors influencing economic behavior. His research integrates Austrian, behavioral, evolutionary, institutional, and Post Keynesian frameworks. Earl has authored/co-authored 18 books and numerous articles, served as co-editor of Journal of Economic Psychology, and contributed to editorial boards of Review of Political Economy and Marketing Theory.
Research interests include bounded rationality, regulatory interventions for complex markets, and the interplay between psychological factors and economic systems. He has advised doctoral candidates on topics ranging from housing renovation choices to economic complexity. His recent work explores Shackle’s uncertainty analysis, regulatory design for mobile phone contracts, and the legacy of influential economists like Brian Loasby.
Earl’s funding history includes a 2010-2013 ARC grant studying consumer decision-making in mobile phone contracts. He remains available for supervision, focusing on pluralistic approaches to economic analysis and policy implications of behavioral insights.
