Dr. Peter Dotray is the Leidigh Professor of Weed Science and holds the Rockwell Chair of Weed Science at Texas Tech University. He has a joint appointment spanning Texas Tech University (52%), Texas A&M AgriLife Research (24%), and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service (24%). His roles include teaching Principles of Weed Science, Modes and Mechanisms of Herbicide Action, and RaiderReady: The Freshman Seminar. Dr. Dotray leads the PSS Outreach Program and serves as the Extension Weed Specialist in the Texas High Plains.
Education: B.S. in Agronomy (University of Minnesota, 1986), M.S. in Agronomy (Washington State University, 1989), and Ph.D. in Agronomy (University of Minnesota, 1993).
Research focuses on integrated weed management in agronomic crops such as cotton, sorghum, peanut, sunflower, corn, guar, and sesame. Key interests include herbicide-resistant varieties, reduced tillage challenges, and proactive strategies against herbicide-resistant weeds. He emphasizes practical solutions for growers and cultivates critical thinking in students through research.
Dr. Dotray has advised 24 M.S., 6 Ph.D., and 8 non-thesis students, with 2 current graduate students. His work bridges academic research and extension services to address real-world agricultural challenges.
