Peter Curtis is an Associate Professor in Nutrition and Biomedicine at the Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia. He is a member of the Norwich Institute for Healthy Ageing (NIHA) and the Nutrition and Preventive Medicine Group. His research focuses on the role of dietary flavonoids and polyphenols in health maintenance, particularly their cardiometabolic effects in populations with obesity, heart disease, or diabetes. He holds a PhD in Human Nutrition from Newcastle University (2006), an M.Med.Sci. from Sheffield University, and a BA in Human Movement Studies from Leeds Metropolitan University.
Key research interests include polyphenol metabolism, gut microbiota interactions, and non-invasive vascular assessments. He has led studies on anthocyanins, isoflavones, and cocoa-derived compounds, with recent work emphasizing blueberry intake in metabolic syndrome patients. Curtis supervises PhD students and teaches on the MBBS medical degree, including PBL tutoring. He has secured grants from organizations like the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council and the Florida Department of Citrus, and collaborates on projects such as the CEFAS One Food Project.
His lab investigates whole-diet effects and fermentable polyphenols’ health benefits. Curtis sits on the Quadram Clinical Research Facility Joint Management Group and reviews for medical and nutritional journals.
