Péter Csermely is a Professor at Semmelweis University's School of Medicine, Department of Molecular Biology (Budapest, Hungary), affiliated since 1986 with progressive roles from Lecturer to full Professor. His research spans networks, stress adaptation, aging, molecular chaperones, and multi-target drug design. He founded talent-support initiatives like the Network of Youth Excellence (NYEX) and chaired Hungary's National Talent Support Council, impacting 200,000+ individuals.
Education includes dual PhDs (Chemistry, 1983; Biochemistry, 1988), a DSc (1994), and an MA in Theology (2022). Research integrates systems biology, chaperone functions, and network medicine, with 275+ publications and 15 books. Recent work explores protein dynamics, metabolic evolution, and stress-induced network rearrangements.
Awards include the EU Descartes Prize (2004), Széchenyi Prize (2019), and 30+ national/international honors. He leads major grants (e.g., Hungarian National Science Foundation) and collaborates globally (e.g., Karolinska Institute). Labs focus on chaperone networks, redox biology, and AI applications in biomedicine.
