Dr Peter Blair is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature and Programme Leader of the MRes English at the University of Chester. He co-founded the International Flash Fiction Association and serves as co-editor of Flash: The International Short-Short Story Magazine and Press, while also contributing to the University of Chester Press Editorial Board. His academic journey includes a PGCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (2008-2009), PhD in South African literature (University of York, 1999-2003), and BA in English from the University of Oxford (1991-1995).

Research focuses on Anglophone South African literature, particularly postcolonial and diasporic writing, literary history, and flash fiction. His work on 'hyper-compressed' narratives in post-apartheid South Africa has been widely published, including contributions to REF 2021 Impact Case Study. He also explores the literary-historical significance of flash fiction as both a scholar and creative writer.
Recent publications include co-edited flash fiction anthologies like Nothing to Worry About (2024) and The World at the End of the Garden (2024), alongside critical chapters analyzing flash fiction's role in post-transitional South Africa. His 2018 article 'Hyper-compressions' established frameworks for understanding flash fiction's emergence in post-apartheid contexts.

As an educator, Dr Blair teaches twentieth-century and contemporary English literature, creative writing, professional writing, and publishing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He supervises MRes and PhD projects while maintaining editorial roles in international flash fiction platforms and peer-review activities for South Africa's National Research Federation and Poland's National Science Centre.
