Peter Armstrong is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Sydney. He coordinates the M. Arch Urban Architecture Studio and is a member of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre. His research focuses on urban and architectural history, particularly Japanese feudal cities and heritage preservation. He has authored books such as Hagi - A Feudal Capital in Tokugawa Japan (2019) and published extensively on topics ranging from historical urban planning to community-driven architectural design.
Armstrong's work explores intersections between architecture, history, and culture. Notable research includes analyses of Hagi’s Tokugawa-era urban fabric, Iran’s residential building evolution, and inclusive worship space design in Sydney. His interdisciplinary approach integrates architectural theory with social and historical contexts, emphasizing heritage conservation and multicultural urbanism.
