Dr Lee Stephen Roberts is a Lecturer in the School of Built Environment within the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). He is affiliated with the City Futures Research Centre and teaches courses in Architecture, City Planning, and Landscape Architecture.
Dr Roberts holds a BA in Architecture, M. Architecture, M. Urban Planning, Certificate in Urban Design, and PhD in Urban Design. He is also a Licensed Architect (NCARB) and LEED for Neighborhood Development Accredited Professional.
His research focuses on urban design, city planning, and active transport infrastructure. Dr Roberts is particularly interested in how public space and active transport infrastructure can contribute to social and economic vitality in cities. His expertise encompasses precinct planning, transit-oriented development, master planning, and urban infill projects. He has conducted community-based participatory design and planning projects in China, Taiwan, and Japan, with a strong interest in community-driven planning approaches.
Since moving to Sydney in 2019, Dr Roberts has been researching the implementation and use of bicycle infrastructure in Greater Sydney and advocating for bicycling infrastructure in the Eastern Suburbs. He serves as the Randwick Advocacy Coordinator for BIKEast and is a member of the UNSW Faculty of Science Sustainability Working Group.
