Prof. Dr. Peter Annighöfer holds the Chair of Forest and Agroforestry Systems at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), affiliated with the TUM School of Life Sciences. His research focuses on understanding forest and tree-landscape ecosystems to improve silvicultural and agroforestry management strategies. Key areas include forest structural complexity, regeneration dynamics, invasive species management, and climate resilience. He leads interdisciplinary projects like CitySoundscapes and DE-URY-forest, exploring ecosystem services in urban and natural settings.
Education: Studied Forest Science and Ecology at Georg-August University Göttingen and Universidad Austral de Chile. PhD (2013), postdoc at Göttingen, and research fellowship at UC Berkeley. Appointed to TUM in 2020.
Research Interests: Includes forest structure dynamics, competition between tree species, biomass allocation, and silvicultural innovations. Notable work addresses drought impacts on European beech, invasive species control, and agroforestry systems' sustainability.
Awards: Recognized as top student in 2008, received Fischer Foundation PhD scholarship, and nominated for the Thurn and Taxis Award. Active in teaching and supervising research across Germany and internationally.
Lab/Team: Oversees a group including researchers like Sophie Arzberger and Timo Gebhardt. Collaborates on projects like Cocoa from Agroforestry Systems and Forest Structures via Remote Sensing.
