Professor Pete Thomas is a faculty member at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), holding the position of Professor in Organisation Studies. He serves as Director of the MSc Human Resource and Knowledge Management programme and MSc Politics, Philosophy and Management programme. His research focuses on discourse analysis in organizational contexts, particularly applying Critical Discourse Analysis to investigate professionalization, strategic management processes, and employment relations.
Current teaching includes courses such as Researching in Organizational Settings, Strategy and IT Management, and Organisational Behaviour and HRM. He has held external roles as an examiner for Liverpool University Business School’s MSc Management and HRM (2010-2014) and serves as external PhD supervisor at University of Central Lancashire and Chester University.
Key research areas include mediation schemes in public sector organizations, the interplay between practitioners and academics in strategic discourse, and the politics of metricized HR practices. His work critically examines organizational power dynamics and neoliberal influences on workplace structures.
Prof Thomas has supervised PhD students including Sunanda Jain and actively participates in academic networks like the Networks, Knowledge and Strategy group. His publications span journals such as Business History, Work, Employment and Society, and Organization Studies, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to organizational discourse studies.
