Penny Sorensen is a Senior Research Associate and Visiting Researcher at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of Social Work and the Centre for Research on Children and Families. Her research focuses on aging masculinities, social connectedness in older men, and qualitative research methodologies. She holds a PhD from UEA (2012), an MA in Child and Family Research (2008), and a BSc in Psychosocial Sciences (2007).
Her key research interests include photo-elicitation studies, grounded theory, and visual methods applied to understand older men’s social worlds. Recent projects include analyses of serious case reviews for child safeguarding (Department for Education-funded) and studies on 'County Lines' issues in Norfolk. She co-authored reports on child welfare policy and practice, including pandemic-era adaptations of social work methods.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to reducing inequalities and promoting well-being for all ages. Collaborations span academic and governmental partners, with a focus on vulnerable populations and systemic service improvements.
