Shannon Philip is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Sociology Department at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and a Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. His work focuses on youth, race, gender, sexualities, urbanization, and development, particularly in India and South Africa. He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, a Master’s degree from Oxford, and an undergraduate degree in International Development from UEA.
Research Interests:
- Identity and masculinities
- Family dynamics and violence
- Youth cultures and aspirations
- Postcolonial sociology
His publications explore themes such as neoliberal masculinities, fieldwork ethics, and global South perspectives on youth development. He actively contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through his work on social inequalities.
Shannon is currently accepting PhD students and has served as a peer reviewer for journals like Boyhood Studies and Men and Masculinities.
