Penny Bryden is a Professor of History at the University of Victoria, specializing in Canadian political history, constitutional evolution, and scandal. Her work examines power structures, social policy development, and prime ministerial authority. She holds degrees from Trent University and York University.
Bryden's publications include 'Canada: A Political Biography' (2016) and studies of Ontario-Ottawa relations. Her current projects analyze the growth of the Prime Minister's Office and political ethics controversies. She teaches courses on Canadian-American relations, constitutional history, and Quebec society.
She has mentored graduate students researching multiculturalism policy, border enforcement, and Indigenous voting rights. Bryden’s methodological approach combines institutional analysis with narrative-driven case studies.
